More blogs to add to
Orbyn - How pretty is that!!
Dave - Oops I forgot to include one of my best mate's blogs - Ladies and Gentlemen may I present the Student Radio Award Winning Best Producer - Mr David Shipp :-)
I've also just added my wishlist to the page. For those people who might actually have reason to use it because I'm a notoriously hard person to buy for. I've just bought myself lots of stuff with Xmas money so its got a bit short.

All I want for
.... is a nice, pretty, lovely, shiny blog....
Cha Cha Cha and A Teenager Blogs (award winning dontcha know) is another example.
If anyone would like to help me acheive prettiness then please let me know!
Thanks xx
Oh and for Xmas I
So recommendations for something good please would be much appreciated!
Many thanks!
The show was fantastic and
I'll blog in depth about it when I can manage to :-) but at the moment I'm listening obsessively to Radio 1. Wes was really good doing Christmas Lunch earlier. I think it was his first non chart main show (exc. early breakfast) and he was actually much cooler and wittier than I imagined him to be...Potentially Coxy's pregnancy leave replacement, or is that certain to be Scott Mills?
And then it was Moyles Christmas Show which was pretty much a bog standard fab Moyles show. I really don't relish the thought of having to wake up for 7am to listen to my fav dj from January though...
Blah blah blah i'll try and write something sensible later.
Hope you've had a Proper Chrimbo... Selecta

Wow Wow Wow. Wow is
Wow is all I can say.
Throughout growing up, my family were always keen for me to get into a profession such as becoming a lawyer or some boring job like that ;) However when I got to about 15 or so I began to take a real interest in the media and thought perhaps journalism was the thing for me. So... I did a little bit of work experience at the local evening paper and well that was that.
When I was younger my grandparents had a very funny opinion of what would corrupt little ol me, and rather bizarrly music was one of those things. I only really started listening to music in about 1995 and radio probably about the same time, although it was probably only the Radio 1 top 40, and that was when I had some real excitement about who was going . Apart from recording said top 40 on xmas countdown for a couple of years, the real first memory I have of distinctly listening to the radio was with Joanne, my best mate in VIth form, during one of our random drives to MaccyDs after school. Jo always had Chris Moyles on and absolutely adored him. But I just couldn't get into him at all, there always seemed to be too many people there jabbering on, and as a casual listener I had no idea who Melinda or various other people were. However as he’s now my favourite DJ (and I’m gutted he’s going to breakfast… like I’m up then!) it shows things do change!
Getting my own car and driving about *lots* was really a major turning point for me in terms of my radio listening habits. Whereas at home I would tend to flick around the tv, particularly in the days of OnDigital when I could flick round MTV pretty easily. My favourite radio station back home was 97.4 Rock FM - the EMAP 'big city' Station for our area, covering Preston and Blackpool, but in reality having a massive range from lancaster down to about Stoke. There were some fantastic DJs on there... Glen Hunt, Rob Ellis, Mark Paxman, all who I listened to regularly. However radio was always one of those things that I imaged to be full of glitz and glamour and stars like the movies.
So when flicking through my University's SU guide before I arrived, I was delighted to find a student radio station there. This could be something fun to do, and hey I might as well give it a try. I'd always been really self conscious about my voice but what the hell... lets give it a go. So I signed up, got a show and well you know the rest of it. Now here I am,
Station Manager of the Best Student Radio Station in the country, and hell it feels good to say that. I'm a very modest person but I do feel proud of the work that I and others have done at RaW. When I joined, the exec then won Best Station too. They were a wicked bunch of people and without some of them, most particularly Pat & Lev, and all the guys who are fantastic who left even before I came, but were so enthusiastic and supportive, I would never be in the place I am today.
So yeah, what is this place I am in today? Well I sit here typing as someone who knows exactly, well no that's a lie, not *exactly* what I want to do, but at least I know *exactly* industry I want to do it in. Take a wild guess ;)
I can't think of anything worse than getting a graduate or a 'sensible' job just because it pays well and is secure etc. For me, and perhaps I'm being too idealistic about this, but I can't think of anything worse than being stuck in a job that I'm not passionate about. I want to work in radio so so much and to wake up every morning to go to a job that I love would be completely fulfilling. This weekend I did some work for the BBC helping out at their new internal Music & Radio event. Although I was doing it for free, it was a great experience as I got to meet some fantastic people from BBC Live Events and various other depts including 1xtra, Radio 2 & Radio 3, and go to some very cool sessions, meeting the likes of Pete Tong & Simon Mayo. And it was weird, I had to wake up at 6.45 ... NOT a nice experience for me, and walk through Clapham to the tube station, but I, and this sounds so ridiculously cheesy, did it with a spring in my step, because I was going to do something that would be the first step on the long path that I hope is ahead of me. I walked through the pouring rain, in the dark morning, tired as hell, smiling like a cheshire cat. I'm crazy as a coconut.
And then came the even better news... much much much gratitude has to go out to Chris for recommending me for work experience at the production company he works at. From Monday I'll be doing some work experience there for 2 weeks. This does however mean I'm in London and er need somewhere to sleep! Hopefully I'll be ok at my cousins for some of the time, but hey, if you have a sofa and don't mind me crashing on it a few nights then let me know please! I'll buy you muchos alcohol promise xx
Today however was the biggie. It was our, and by our I mean myself, Russ, Carter & Dom's, first meeting at Radio 1 for our show on Xmas day... I'll go into more depth about this when I haven't just written the epic that is above, but my god, it was amazing. We did lots, we saw lots and there's lots to do, and I really can't wait. Radio 1... when it comes to real life, that is so the ultimate goalpost. I'm starting the finger crossing now....

What’s your favourite song?
Don't you just hate it when people ask you that?? Well I do. But for some reason I feel the need to write down exactly what mine are.. its part of not being in a good mood.
So in no particular order and covering random genres to include nu-metal, rap & dance
Linken Park - In the End
Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
Carly Simon - You're so vain
Moby - Porcelain
Eric Carmen - Hungry Eyes
Elvis Costello - She
Dusty Springfield - The Look of Love
Dusty Springfield - I Close my eyes and count to ten
(edit: hmm this looks like i have a shocking taste in music... I just can't think of them atm.. hence me writing down so I can add to it when I think)
And currentish favourites
Robbie - Sexed up
Xtina - Beautiful
Coldplay - Warning Sign
Goddamn I’m really not in
Radio prospects in life are really looking good, and I'm hopefully going to be getting some good experience behind me this Xmas which will bode well for the future.
First of all I'm helping out on Monday & Tuesday at an Internal BBC Music & Radio festival, stewarding, running about, generally helping stuff like that. We can sit in on some sessions so it should be cool.
Secondly through the Best Station win, I'll be producing a show on Radio 1 for broadcast on Xmas Eve/Day 12am - 4am. It will be presented by Chris Carter & Dom Moret and I'll be helped by Russ Boyatt! Its going to be amazing. We have our first meeting at Radio 1 on Wednesday and I really can't wait :-)
Thirdly.... waiting on final confirmation but I should have some work experience at a fantastic London production house in the first week of the holidays.
Yay!

Just a quickie Everyone is
Everyone is having a moan about how love ...actually looks shite! Personally I think it looks amazing and particularly because it has Hugh "man of my dreams" Grant in it!! ;-) All my flat kindly went without me when I was DJing Rag Disco :-( so I'm at a bit of a quandry as who to go with!! I think its the type of film that will be fantastic and lovely but will depress me massively because of the whole lack of love thing going on!! Oh well!!
If anyone fancies going drop me a comment xx

Wowza. Friday sees the culmination
Friday sees the culmination of 4 months of solid work to create the 2003 Student Radio Awards. I sit on the Student Radio Association Executive and each year we hold in associaiton with Radio 1, national awards to celebrate the talent of student radio. And after sleepless nights, endless phone calls to Heidi in Bristol and a few tears, Friday is *it*.
Stressed isn't the word. I live with the most fantastic people, and the girls have been helping me chill all afternoon. I tried on my lush dress, and got taught how to do makeup to match it perfectly (im such a 10 year old) and then it hit me, so many many things rest on this Friday. Is the night going to run to plan and perfectly, Are RaW going to have anything to celebrate, and are my own personal hopes for Friday going to turn out the way I hope.
All my current hopes and dreams could be shattered or realised in only 4 days...
Sunday, 9 November 2003
Well todays chart has been
I don't think anyone can deny that Kylie - Slow isn't the best the Aussie Minx has done but its gone straight in at number 1 on todays top 40.
Equally strange is the fact that Robbie - Sexed Up has gone in at number 10. This is only his 4th single to ever go below number 4 in the chart. In my opinion this is the 2nd best song on Escapology which isnt that fantastic an album but it does contain the utterly beautiful feel and the fantastic but seeminly under rated Sexed up. Gutting!
By the way its Kylie week on SBN this week and you can win Kylie tickets to a special intimate show which might be worth a listen.
Also this weekend I went to see Xtina Aguilera with Giles & Mikey in Sheffield which was pretty cool. That girl has an amazing pair of lungs and Beautiful really is Beautiful.
On Friday I went to Leicester and bought a lush dress for the awards so all is looking funky. I just need to plan how to accessorise it and how to get ready in a toilet in about 15 minutes on the night but still look hot. 12 days to go!
Saturday, 8 November 2003
Aaaah I’m so tired. :-)
I went to Dan's birthday party last night at his house in Leam and am SO SO tired. I only woke up at 1pm...ooops and I have shed loads of work to do before going to see Christina Aguilera tonight. But the night was good as I knew practically everyone there and spent a good amount of time talking union stuff which i'm not quite sure is a good thing or not ;)
Pat has a show today on dream so good luck honey!
Top B this week is going to be normal, hurrah! Last week it was hosted by the Warwick Student Cinema and so I had to play lots of movie stuff that no one really seemed to want to dance to. The cheese will be back in force this week though. However the crowd at top b is annoying me a bit at the moment. Its very weird that all the first years were born in 1985 and they just don't seem to know *any* songs. I played Holding out for a hero and Sisters are doing it for themselves and they all just kinda stopped dancing and stood there! Very very very odd........

Oh dear me. The goddamn
Now I love this song, and I'm sure all Angel fans do too.... this leads to the horrible situation where I like a Westlife song. Stone me to death now!
Sunday, 19 October 2003
Well the weekend was fandabbydozzy!!!
Went down to Lboro on friday night and went out for a 'coupla' drinks leading to very little sleep and a very tired me for the Masterclass the next morning. However the masterclass was fantastic with really interesting speakers.
Nomination night was the biggy though and I appear to have transformed my slight cough into a killer bug through sleeping on a floor & getting absolutely wasted. I couldn't even drive back to Warwick until about 6pm last night I felt that bad!
The big news is that RaW has been nominated for SIX Awards. Yeah man.
Best Male - Chris Carter
Best Specialist Show - Chris Carter
Best Specialist Show - Charles Gill
Best Production Innovation - David Shipp
Best Speech Based Non Factual - David Shipp
And the biggie Best Station ! I'm so so happy especially about Best Station as that was my baby!
Whoohoo
Tuesday, 14 October 2003
Wow I’m being ridiculous rubbish
Here's whats being going on:
1) Student Radio Association stuff!
Heidi & myself have been working every single minute of the day to try and make the student radio awards go to plan. Nomination parties take place this Saturday. I'm off to the one in Loughborough with RaW, and shall be joined their by demon, urn, lcr, lush & fly hopefully! Should be good and I'm meeting Uzma on Sunday for lunch so yay!
The awards themselves take place in November but nominations are the first big thing and there will no doubt be tears & smiles on Saturday night!
2) RaaaaaW
My 'beloved' radio station has been having its usual influx of new members. We were also on FM for 2 weeks which is very exciting but also very expensive! Grrh. We had our welcome meeting tonight and had some really good people sign up for things which is *ace*.
3) DJing ... (like a bitch)
UWSU have kindly got no other ents DJs this year except for yours truely. Thus I have been rotared with people of varying ability over the past coupla weeks, including Ed, Rik and Robbie G. And when I say rotared I mean every single event going. Since the start of term I've done :- 3 x Top B, 2 x Score, 2 x Welcome Party, 1 x Baby B, 1 x Freshers Ball, 1 x School Days . I think thats it! But its a hell of a lot :( New DJs should be appearing soon though so should be sorted!
4) That thing called a degree!
My courses all seem good just need to spend a bit more time on them. I particularly need to do my project specification which is in this Friday! Aaaargh.
Wednesday, 1 October 2003
…. And the Cooler Diner
And the Cooler Diner has finally been done over and turned into a very funky & surprisingly good fish and chip stylee take away called .. wait for it Battered!
Workwise I'm the only cheesy DJ left which is prooving a bit of a stress as I'm doing every single shift with people who have never DJed before. Fortunatly I've managed to get Ed from TSG onto the Ents rota now to do all the big shifts with me... School Daze, Top B etc, so that should improve things a bit.
Sunday Welcome & First Top B went down a treat. This years newbies seem very much into their rock/indie, so Crash on Friday should be very well attended. Bit annoyed I'm doing Score tonight as all my flat is going to Ikon :'( Cat's back for the freshers ball 2moro though (bootleg beatles yay!) so that should be a laugh.
Sports Fed was yesterday, and because when I started at Uni I only thought I'd be here for 3 years, I had to buy an extra years Sports Fed membership for £15. Grrh. And I never used it in the last 3 years. However this year I have joined Squash (I always wanted to learn), Ladies Cricket (recommended by cat), Mixed Hockey & Mixed Netball. I think the last 2 are mainly going to be for a laugh and a drinking circle really. Its really weird being in 4th year as most people you know have left, so trying to make new mates!!
And finally lecture wise - yes those other things you have to do at uni! My timetable is ridiculous - 12 hours in term 1, fine, ZERO in term 2 & 3. Oh well at least I'll do fab on my project hopefully!
TTFN!
Sunday, 28 September 2003
Well term starts tomorrow and
I've moved into Hurst and although its small, I can tell you that this year is going to be the best one. I'm living with Dee who was my neighbour & best mate in first year, and a coupla her mates off her course, Mel & Nil. We also knew there were going to be 2 extra people who we didn't know, but its turned out fantastic as the guys, Darren & John, are both sound. Its a flat full of heavy drinking & heavy partying and is going to rule supreme!
The union itself has undergone quite a few drastic changes. First up, Mondos (or 'Zone E' depending how old u are!) has been turned into a very stylish and delicious coffee bar called Rococo. With gorgeous sofas and a cream carpet & walls, we're all just left wondering how long till a pint of purple ruins it!
TBC...

I hate Dan. Listen to
Listen to Gareth Gates - Sunshine and then listen to George Michael poppy songs, and tell me Gareth doesn't song like George.
Dammit Dan has managed to make me slightly hate one of my all time fav artists. GRRH

Yay! I’m joining the
Yay! I'm joining the revolution and getting the prettiest thing known to man, a 15gb ipod. Basically I'm very fed up of doing lots of travelling for the SRA and having nothing to listen to do so I'm sure this will entertain me. Knowing my luck I'll lose it in about 15 minutes but I hope not. Can I insure these?
But yes I'm not posting much cos I'm generally running round doing SRA & RaW thangs. 27 days to FM ... I feel sick :'(
But anyway another wicked tune I'd recommend is Jamelia - Superstar . Nice floaty bouncy urbanish pop. It rawks.
CD:UK was cool. Went with Lynsey from LCR and her flatmate. Actually in a much smaller studio than we were imagining. We saw performances by Gareth Gates, Westlife, Rachel Stevens & Louise so was pretty cool. Not looking forward to seeing the video though of us applauding and smiling like gimps!!!

My first Friday five
1. When was the last time you laughed?
Last night driving round Coventry with Dan generally just mucking about and listening to stupid music!
2. Who was the last person you had an argument with?
Some dude who was a dj on RaW. An absolute cock who couldnt stand me being mates with his mates. Seriously psychopath.
3. Who was the last person you emailed?
Rich Vodden - Chair of the SRA - re random financy type stuff
4. When was the last time you bathed?
I have just dried down from a shower so about 10 minutes ago. I'm clean.
5. What was the last thing you ate?
A Mr Kipling Butterfly Cake. I really need to go out and get some food. I'm famished.
Some wicked tunes coming out
Elton John - Are you ready for love : A rerelease of this 1970s classic. Dan and I spent the manic drive around Cov last night scaring other motorists by dancing like crazy people to Saturday Night's alright for fighting . However I don't think anything can beat the George Michael duet version of Don't let the sun go down on me merely cos of the immortal words Ladies and Gentleman .... MR ELTON JOHN . If you've heard it you'll get me. Also big up to the dont disCARD me . The damn thing about elton is that I used to really like him, however at Xmas working at HMV, we had the Fame academy album, Elton's greatest hits, and Westlife's greatest hits on CONSTANTLY, and they really got on my nerves. Hence I find it pretty difficult to listen to much of his old stuff now. Like a lot of the new stuff though, I want love rocks.

Does thou like??? Its
Does thou like??? Its a 2001 Y reg blue indigo mini and it rules supreme. Ive driven back from Blackpool in it today and then been driving round Coventry for hours tonight. Don't I lead the most exciting life in the world.
This week has been good though. I went back to the 'pool to pick up my car and had a fab night out with Wendy at The Syndicate last night. Also I got a phone call today telling me I have a job interview at a very exciting place so fingers crossed for that!
I have 4 tickets for CD:UK next Saturday so if anyone fancies coming with me then let me know!
Thursday, 21 August 2003
OK trying to make this
I get a Mini at 5pm .. brum brum ...:D

Hi guys I’ve moved my
I've moved my blog here for a couple of reasons:
a) Its a bit more private. Only the people I want to will know its here.
b) Whats the point of having a domain if I don't use it!
c) Er thats it (hence me using the words a couple)
So now on this site I have my blog and my photo gallery, but no linking website which I really need to sort out as I'm going to have to put my dissertation things on there soon. I'd also like a bit of a radio section but my web design skills are very cack.

Yay Mark got to number
Friday, 8 August 2003
DKay & Epsilon -
Radio 1 have been banging this track out like the world is ending (you've got a 4 minute warning by the way). Its a poppy radio edit of a drum & bass track and its very summery and very good.
However Its an absolute nightmare to get hold of. I can find lots and lots of original edits and mixes but nothing that is anywhere near the vocal mix on the radio, so if anyone can help me out let me know! Listen to radio 1 for half an hour and you are bound to hear it, and I'd reccomend it muchos.

Right I don’t know
Right I don't know whats got into me I wasn't a take that fan at all but...
Make Four Minute Warning
number 1 this week people!!! (Not gonna happen I know but we can try). The song is such a grower, didn't like it at first but love it now!
Bless him!!

Oh my god. Robbie
Oh my god. Robbie was absolutely utterly amazing.
Not only did we see (and were at the very very front of the non vip bit) the most wicked show but also The Darkness (not my thing), Kelly Osbourne (ugh), Ash!!! and Moby!!!
Ash were good doing a mix of old stuff (Girl from Mars, Kung Fu etc), tracks off Free All Angels (sometimes, burn baby burn, walking barefoot etc) and a couple of tracks off their new album due out in September I think. Now personally I *heart* Ash. However the Robbie crowd didn't really seem to be digging it. Whether this was because they just wanted Robbie I don't know but it didn't really add much to the environment for Ash. But I enjoyed them anyway!!
Then was the Special guest star - Moby. The strange little bald man was an absolute wonder to watch. He bounced around the stage from keyboards to drums to vocals. Accompanied by a fantastic female vocalist and a superb band, the only way it could have been better would be if he had been on at a beautiful sunset. Porcelain is in my all time top 5 songs and hearing it live and feeling the amazing atmosphere as its epic notes rang out was amazing. The song has some great memories for me as the holiday after my A-levels in Maguluf, my friend and I were in a club called BCM and they had an amazing light and laser show. You really had to be there but they opened the show with Porcelain and the mix of music & lights was truely awesome. So seeing it live was something special. Once again tho, the crowd didn't seem to dig Moby. Nat & I had our own private party!! :-)
And then... the moment arrived the big man himself - the screaming began & never stopped. Mr Robbie Williams arrived on stage, and my god, I'd never really found him attractive before but I now want to marry the man!!! Kicking off with Let me entertain you, and going through practically every single (missed out eternity, and stuff off Life thro a lense.. gutted) together with tracks off his new album, Mr Bojangles & better man, it was a truely amazing experience. Looking back from the very front we could see masses and masses of people, and can only begin to imagine what a very overwhelming emotional experience that must be for the performer.
Everything was perfect. The set, the songs, the dancers, Robbie, the atmosphere, the weather. Perfect. And then the stuff legends are made of.. Robbie kicked off into his punkish cover of Take That's Back for Good reached the second verse and introduced MARK OWEN!!!! Now I wasn't a Take That girl in their day but boy oh boy we screamed for Britain. Practically half of the Take That reunited on stage... something that would be cast aside as tabloid rumours if reported before hand. To sound like a lancashire bint, "it was well amazing"
And yes we didn't get out of the carpark till 2am. We didn't go to the toilet all day and we were so tired we had to stay at a travelinn on the way back but it was worth every single penny. An absolutely fantastic day
Friday, 1 August 2003
So yes the deadline has
Off to see Robbie @ Knebworth on Sunday which should be fab!!! Hoping he does some stuff from Life Through A Lense & I've been expecting you though and its not all just escapeology cos i havent really listened to it yet!
Top 5 Robbie Album songs!
Life Through A Lens Containing the singles Old before I die, Lazy Days, South of the Border, Angels & Let me entertain you , and regarded a bit of a failure until the mighty Angels came out. I used to absolute adore that song but general overplaying of it got to me and now its nice to hear occasionally! Old before I die, does however, have to be my favourite song - his 2nd single and a number 2 from April 1997 ( SIX YEARS AGO!!!). It goes down an absolute treat at Score!
I scored 84¾% on the classic 400 Point Purity Test! |
Take the test here! |

but yay.... me & mr riddell... our work here is done!
Hmmm its quite shocking really.
Melanie C's first album was an absolute stonker, with such non single belters like closer and feel the sun. There were some absolutely gorgeous tunes.
However her latest offering Reason really was represented well by Here it comes again because the entire thing is utter pap. And the chart buying public seems to have realised this as well, as its languishing way down... I suppose after 7 years the Spice Girl thang was worn off!
Anyway don't buy it/waste your bandwidth on it... its cack

Whoohoo just got 2 tickets…
Also there's a big load of 'hacks' up this weekend so should be fun!!!
Apologies to anyone at Warwick who went to School Daze on Sat. Pat & I djed it and we couldn't get through about 3 songs without them skipping/stopping... it was shocking and it really wasn't our fault. We went through 3 cd players and they were all pants :-(
Just got Simply Red - Home and Melanie C - Reason so will listen and report back soon!
[Hmm this thread shows my dubious music tastes quite well!]
ARGH. I’m just in the
But yes anyway.. what have I been upto.
Well, the Easter holidays have finished and i'm now back in the lovely, glorious pit of debauchary and sin that is the beautiful city of Coventry. However this holiday has been one of the v. best!
Nus Conference, Blackpool
For so long now, I've been waiting for my mates to come up from uni to my hometown and well in a round about way they finally did. Lummers, Reissy, Greg and others from Warwick came to the annual NUS National Conference held in the Winter Gardens. The majority of us being NUS virgins we were a tad scared by the rumours we had heard of it being awful and well the conference part of it was a bit scary, but once we got into the swing of it all, we enjoyed it a lot. It showed us a lot about the national executive and conjured up some thoughts of disaffiliation... the NUS exec themselves didnt exactly endear themselves at all during conference, and all seemed like a bunch of careerists who didn't care that much about anything but advancing themselves. Ah well!
I've got to give Paul from Liverpool Hope a shout out now. He reads this blog (hello!) and was at conference and I promised I would. But yes conference was wicked. We all got very lashed repeatedly and it was ace to have people up at home. And I got a hotel even though I lived 5 minutes away!! Photos will be appearing soon, especially of a very drunk alan reiss passed on on the hotel stairwell ;-)
And another one... SRA Spring Conference 2003
Well this was my first SRA Conference and my god I am so pissed off I've missed out on 2 years of them. Rob, Catt, Flymo, Shall, Nick, George and moi trundled off to Nottingham Trent, not knowing quite what to expect, but it was so so good. We learnt absolutely loads about radio, made some wicked mates from other stations, and got involved with the SRA. Rob is WM rep and I guttingly lost chair... but it was my first go and I didnt know anyone so fair dos... Roll on next year.
But my god there are some very attractive men in student radio (why none at raw!) I'm not going to say anything else seeing all the scandal involves me ;-)

Top Ten 06/04/03 (1)
Top Ten 06/04/03
(1) 1 Room 5 feat. Oliver Cheatham - Make Luv
(2) 2 Gareth Gates - Spirit In The Sky
(5) 3 Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
(-) 4 Atomic Kitten - Love Doesn't Have To Hurt
(8) 5 50 Cent - In Da Club
(4) 6 Mis-Teeq - Scandalous
(-) 7 Avril Lavigne - I'm With You
(7) 8 Jennifer Lopez feat. LL Cool J - All I Have
(3) 9 Westlife - Tonight / Miss You Nights
(11) 10 Delta Goodrem - Born To Try
Unsurprisingly given last weeks new releases, Room 5 makes it 2 weeks at the top. Singles have recently being staying at the top longer than the 1 week of last year, as there have been very few *big* releases this year. Atomic Kitten enter with their fourth single from second album Feels so good . Love doesn't have to hurt is a pretty bland re-hash of their big slow hits but did better than expected at no 4 instead of the low top 10. Avril's third single enters at no 8, and both Junior Senior and 50 cent climb the chart. There's a fall of 6 places for westlife though! Yay!!
New music Being back
New music
Being back home means that I am broadband free and thus music is a little hard to come by. However here is a quick review of what i've managed to get hold of.
Out this week
Continuing the 2003 theme of covering 80s hits and making them popular again (Heaven, I wanna dance, I think we're alone now etc etc...) 56K (who?) bring us there eurotrance cover of the Duran Duran no 2 classic from 1982. Wow I was only 6 months old when this came out originally... bonkers! Unfortunatly this track goes nowhere near the brill updating of Ordinary World from Aurora in 2000. A pretty weak vocal leads up through the dull verse to a better chorus but all together its quite pants really. Expect Flip & Fill to have been near it at some point. Nothing special. Chart pred: number 31
Since leaving the doomed Hear'say, Kym has been branded the bitch in the breakup, a cradle snatcher and a bit of a pramface. I don't really like her so I'm quite happy to believe all that. Cry is a 'nice' song. That's really the only way to describe it. Its purebread, harmless pop. The type of thing you would expect Emma Bunton to do, although a little bit more guitary. Anyway as I said its harmless.. its not going to set the charts alight but its not going to do badly either. Especially as its aided by a video in which she apparantly looks gorgeous in the purple number!?! Chart pred: number 9
The first single from the Canadian winners of popstars arrives in the UK, and is a cover of the top 20 hit by Fierce from back in May 1999. From what I can remember this sounds exactly the same, although it is 4 years ago so I may be wrong. The track is catchy r&b pop and I like it. However I think that it is too easy to pass over to chart very high in the UK. I'd like to say it would chart at about no 12, but my chart pred is number 29 |
Well I’ve changed my template.
Opinions in my comments please!!

Ooh the RaW site has
I’ve been very very tired
Just a quick note then.
The only thing of any worth conference did was to change NUS' stance on the grants not fees debate. Instead of means tested grants, NUS now fight for grants for all. Personally I'm for means tested but our union holds policy meaning I had to vote for the latter :(
Whatever your opinion please sign Pay Up Tony - a petition to be presented to Blair sometime soon.

Slap me on the
(no offence dave, devin!)
But... ARGH. I've just finished NUS national conference (full report will follow later.. too tired atm) and it appears to have turned me into a complete sad twatty hack. Some amazing things happened, some annoying things, lots of beaurochracy (can't spell it! .. u know what i mean), lots of drunkedness and lots of fun but I seem to have been transformed into this person who a) voted for the far left loads of times (i mean wtf?), b) can talk at length about NUS & student politics (instead of gliding along like I was before), c) Actually really want to talk at length about it.
This has also transformed me into someone who is getting v. pissed off at the SRA who seem to not open up agendas to their members and not show us the constitution. They must have put something in our food at conference. I mean really, REALLY, why would someone want to read a constitution!!!
/me slaps self in face

Hmmm. I worked tonight because
Only thing was I spied one of my ex's. Somehow it made me feel like I was beneath him .. I was working while he was clubbing. Even though I know thats not the case. Also, hmm I dunno, out of my 3 boyfriendish people over the years (god i'm so emotionally repressed... and im not a dog .. im just er choosy (& prim)), he was the one that was the most 'normal'. The other 2 .. one was a psychopath and the other just screwed me about for ages... but this one was just a normal guy, my age, nice etc... and I wasn't that arsed about him. We saw each other when we were home from uni but we'rent all hung up about each other etc... But i dunno seeing him tonight kinda made me think I miss coming home & seeing him.. I just miss having that.
Ah well never mind.. one day my prince charming will come along I suppose... until then maybe I should buy something from the below link ;)

Conference fun I’ve got
I've got 2 conferences lined up in the next few weeks which should all be good fun.. well one more than the other. Warwick is *very* big on conferences. In fact ask any student and they will tell you that the educational part of the university seems very secondary to it. All the university care about is making the lawns tidy, flowers pretty and putting up different sets of flags every two weeks. I mean really, who would be so silly to consider that buying new books for the library would be more important. Pssf, us students think about such trivial things. (not that I have taken a book out of the library in about 2 years.. but still!!!) They also love to kick people out of their campus rooms within hours of term finishing to get them ready for the conferences and all the sweaty conference sex! (as opposed to sweaty student sex). Thankfully (well in some senses) I lived in the direst set of halls on campus, so dire that they didn't put anyone in them in the holidays. I mean really, imagine coming back to your room and thinking 2 strangers may have been upto all sorts in your bed the night before. Hmm well actually I suppose hotels... ick I've never thought of it like that before!!! Woe betides my pure mind
But anyway.
Conference numero uno: NUS National Conference - Blackpool - March 30th - 2nd April. I'm one of 11 elected delegates from uni & its helpfully being held in my home town. But I'm still going to get put up in a hotel & fed lots which is nice!! And its going to be v. wicked because I'm very good friends with 5 of the other delegates and know all the others so yay! I'm looking forward to having them up here, and of course spending many long days discussing all student politicy things.... :-)
and
numero duo : SRA Spring Conference - The national student radio associations main conference of the year takes place in Nottingham between the 10th and 12th of April. Despite having been involved in student radio for 3 years, I have never got round to going. But this year it should be good. There are 8 of us going so far and I'm waiting to hear on others. Problem though as to where we are going to stay as the suggested accomodation is a tad expensive. If anyone knows Nottingham well and knows of cheap accom give me a shout!
Thought I would give a
From the site:
Audioscrobbler started life as a Computer Science degree project by Richard Jones (better known as RJ) at the Univeristy of Southampton in the UK. The Audioscrobbler Project is an ongoing exploration into Social Information Filtering, music being the "Problem Domain".
Basically you download a winamp plugin which feeds back to Audioscrobbler what you are listening to. It builds stats of your favourite artists, songs etc... and then when its collated 500 tracks you have listened to, suggests tracks/bands that you don't have and that it thinks you would enjoy. Pretty funky. Roll on my 500nth song!!

Cheese on trial: Are
Cheese on trial: Are Flip & Fill the most evil men in dance?
Not only does the April edition of Mixmag contain the best cover headline ever (see above), along with the intro Forget Sadamm & Osama. Meet the most dangerous men in the world , this months cover cd is just funny as fcuk. Its called Porn House Mix [God knows what this is going to do for me on google], and is really not something to put on loud with your parents in the house as it opens with the words [OVER 18s ONLY HIGHLIGHT TO READ] You know what my favourite fantasy is. I love two hard cocks. One fucking me and I like to suck one off while the other is fucking me. And today I have 2 of my favourite friends coming over and they are gonna be eating my pussy and I'm going to be sucking me off. MMM I can hardly wait its gonna be good. Hmm I'm not sure I should really put that here but its v. amusing over a dance track.
So in conclusion you MUST buy this months mixmag... if only for comedy value :-)

This week’s Notable New
This week's Notable New Releases
Albums
Boyzone: Love Songs The Ballad Collection : Ew. Why o why? I have never ever liked Boyzone and they were at their peak during my teenage years. But no o no - the precursor to Westlife, they did the same old only love song endevour. I can only think of 2 BZ songs that weren't ballads (Going gets tough, Picture of you) so why not just a Greatest Hits. And still, I really can't see it doing well. Surely all the fans have grown up by now. Prediction: Top 20. (now watch it go to no1)
Dannii Minogue - Neon Nights : I've always been a fan of Dannii since the fantastic All I wanna Do back in 1997. With her popularity rising over the last year through the fantastic Who do you love now, Put the Needle on it & I begin to Wonder tracks, I expect this album to be electro-pop dance. Much is being made of the fact that there is a track Vibe on all about vibrators!! I have only heard a couple of tracks so far but hope to be hearing more today so I shall update when I can. Prediction : No 7. [I also recommend listening to the Cicada Vocal Mix of Put the needle on it.]
Singles
Its always puts a downer on the day to wake up on a Monday and find that Gareth Gates is number one. Yes it may be for charity and yes he may be taking the p*** of himself a little in the video and it is all quite amusing but is still bloody Gareth doing another bloody cover. Where has Will gone recently??
So, ok, Singles... is there anything that can knock this pesky teenager off the topspot this week?
Linken Park - Somewhere I belong : LPark hold the 'prestigous' honour of holding a space in my top 3 songs ever. Not sure which of those 3 places I haven't quite figured it out yet, but In the End is just such a fantastic, moving song that it gets me everytime. For any Buffy fans out there, there is a fab Spikecentric music video using this track which you can download here . But anyway back to the track in question. I heard it last night for the first time, and wasn't overly impressed. Nothing good, but nothing bad either. Top 20? I dunno how big their fanbase is.
Misteeq - Scandelous . Popjustice LOVE this song. Mainly because it involves sirens.. lol. The Misteeq girls are back in full flow, with this the first track of their new album Eye Candy which is out on the 31st March. I preferred the stuff of their last album to this particular track, but am looking forward to the album.
Blue - You make me wanna . Aha my favourite boy band. You make me wanna is the 3rd release of their second album. I wouldn't have personally picked this one from the album ... I hope they release Supersexually cos it uses the fantastic piano bit off a Dr Dre track. This one is a lot more mellow & usa groove (i think) than the rest of their released singles. But it should do well.. prob about no 5? Mmm Duncan!
Simply Red - Sunrise . Yes you all think I'm a middle aged lady. Well I'm not but I don't care. I love Simply Red to bits. Thislatest track has got pure summertime vibe going on, featuring a sample from Hall & Oates. Hucknell looks a tad scary in the video, but their are plenty of semi-naked women in it to grab the attention of most of you! This is just going to be the perfect track to cruise about to with the sun shining this holiday. Here's hoping it does well... no 6?
Richard X vs Liberty X - Being Nobody : A slice of urban pop bootlegging from the guy behind Freak like me and the most successful losers ever! This mixes Human League - Being Boiled with chaka Khan - Ain't nobody, although I can't really hear anything but the Ain't Nobody part. I like this track, its just not very exciting... a bit static really. And as Natalie commented I just can't watch her in that afro its too funny! Top 3.
EEEsh@no1. And :( at no 39. Top disco track I mentioned a few weeks ago. Could have gone higher if it had been worked with.

The Challenge is set….
The Challenge is set....
As readers will know I DJ at university & have (fingers crossed) managed to get somewhere back home for the holidays. One of the things I really love about DJing is finding new music, picking the quality from the cack, and playing it to people. Getting people all excited about a track way before its release date is fantastic. DJ Sammy - Heaven was a big tune of mine about 9 months before release, but most people I knew were already loving it because I had put the word about.
So what I want from you lot are any new pop picks you have. I'm aware/have most stuff that is out but its prereleases that I am somewhat lacking in at the moment. Preferably pop cos that's what I play but feel free to leave me any other tracks that are making you go whoo at the moment!
Also I'm after any tracks that you remember as being fantastic, but that just don't get heard that often these days.
Trix xx
Just put your hands
Pulp were a band who have seemed to pass me by pretty much. I mean I knew who they were and can sing along quite happily to Common People and Disco 2000 . But who can't???
Over the weekend though I've been listening to A different Class many times. My mum bought me this when I first got a cd player and being foolish I took it back and changed it for the spice girls or something! However, Mark has enforced the album upon me & i've been listening like crazy... it rocks supreme. Just ordered We love Life from HMV Clearout sale at £3.99 --BARGAIN!

Winamp randomosity returns I’m
I'm bored. Hence....
1. The Gypsy Kings - Solo, Solo Dire : Ahem. I really don't know why I have the Gypsy Kings on my drive. I didn't even know that I did. Well a nice start. Erm I don't know what to say really. Its typical Gypsy Kings.. they all sound the same don't they???
2. Blue - Back some day : Blue! Yum! Well anyone who knows me knows I have a slight bias towards these guys. This track is from their first no 1 album, All Rise, and is one of the best non-singles, quite surprised it wasn't a single actually. It has more of a BSB/nsync sound than Blue. Yes i'm cheesy & I like it.
3. The Calling - Just that good : The Calling amuse me. A lot. The lead singer looks like Nick Carter grown up and so doesn't fit into the typical rock stereotype. He should be heading a boy band. This track is from Camino Palmero which is full of "power ballads" including the fantastic Wherever you will go.
4. Five - Take your chances on me : Five were a popular and somewhat credible (well more so than boyzone!) boy band of the late 90s/early 00s splitting up in 2001. Without fail most people can generally sing along to all their singles & they go down a storm at Top B/ Score! This however is a absolutely shite song. Stay well away!
5. Jakatta - American Dream (differentgear remix) : The theme from American Beauty (hi pat!) with random drums and random whispering women all over it. Summer hit from a while ago. Never been too keen myself!
6. Northstarz - Children of the night : Oh god I feel ill. This is a new version of the stonking classic by Nakatomi and it features on the Clubland album. Clubland is made by AATW who work with Flip & Fill, therefore this is invariably shite. It has lost all the energy of the old track, the singer is just so bland & bored its upsetting!! It's also lost the sirens from the original, thus making it even more shite! (Head up Popjustice). Get the original by Nakatomi & burn this!
7. Kosheen - Face in a crowd : Kosheen are fantastic, I love the album to bits. This is the 11th track of Resist and it samples Mike Oldfield's tubular bells. As ever Sian Evans vocals are just fantastic. If you don't have this album get it, its my favourite for a good long time.

Christina Aguilera’s 3rd single from
Friday, 28 February 2003
Blurgh. I’m feeling a tad
So yes depression all around at the moment i'm afraid. It's all a bit poo
Oh and a quick hello
Was in Bristol yesterday and walked past a Burst (Bristol stud radio) van!!! It was like a black thunder but all bursty!! Very jealous. How the hell did they get that??
Bu-bye Buffy Well we
Well we knew it was coming, but now its official. Buffy will be cancelled in May.
I think its the right time as well. I absolutely love the show but season 7 has gone right off the boil. Let's just hope they finish it off nicely and that Angel doesn't get cancelled as well. That would be far too much to cope with!
Coming soon … So
So whilst watching the flicks below I've been seeing trailers for pictures coming out soon (well duh obviously):
Maid in Manhatten : Hmm. I hate Jennifer Lopez.. cannot stand the woman. And Ralph Fiennes in a romantic comedy??? After seeing him in Red Dragon i'm not sure quite how that is going to work. But it just looks so good!!! The poster is dreadfully cheesy, in fact the whole thing is, but I really really want to see it. Shame on me.
Life of David Gale : I've got some free tickets from the Beeb to go and see this one on Tuesday. Starring Kevin Spacey (yay) and Kate Winslet, it tells the story of a anti-death penalty protestor, who is set up and placed on death row. Looks good.
Jackass : Er.. what?? And why??
Films I’m not that
Films
I'm not that big a film fan. I do like them but sitting in the cinema for 2/3 hours or staring at a tv for the same amount of time fills me with dread, as I could be doing so much else. But in the last 2 weeks I've seen 3 films which is somewhat impressive for me.
Chicago
From the moment I saw the trailer for this back in September, I was very excited by the prospect and could not wait to see it. Catherine Zeta Jones is just one of the most stylish, beautiful, hottest stars about at the moment and having never really watched her in a film, I wanted to see if she was really any good.
Based on the original stageplay from Bob Fosse, Chicago really did dazzle with its elaborate set & dazzling numbers. Richard Gere was a real surprise here. Not only could he sing but he managed to present someone who was equally sleazy & attractive in a fantastic way. I was in fact quite disturbed by how hot I was finding Gere... how old is he now???
Cell Block Tango was for me the highlight of the film. A stunning set, song, and dancing make it a standout point in the film & it reminded me a lot of the old posters you used to see for Chicago around London. Is the stage show still on in the West End?
Unfortunatly Renee Zellweger is just one of my least favourite actresses. I don't know what it is about her but I just can't take to her at all, and this is what spoiled the film for me. Zeta-Jones had a much more minor role than the film posters presented, but when she was on screen she did dazzle. A lot of reviewers have said that about Zellweger, but not for me.
Riding on the wave of musical resurrection (thanks Moulin Rouge!), Chicago did its job well and gave us a fantastic musical. Personal actress preferences lessened the enjoyment of the film for me, but it is an exciting piece of work. Just don't expect the magic that Luhrmann gave us in Moulin Rouge.
The Ring
*SHUDDER*
Do not go and see this film alone. Do not go and see this film if you want to watch tv/videos for a couple of days. Do not go and see this film if you get scared easily.
Oh my god. This has got to be the scariest film I have ever seen. Admittedly I haven't watched many scary movies but after the dreadful and apparant scary My little Eye which was just laughablly bad, I thought I would give this film a go.
Based on the original Japanese film & novel by Koji Suzuki, this excellent American remake staring Naomi Watts (most famous for Mulholland drive) has terrified everyone who has seen it. I am very concious not to spoil the film, so there is little I can really say. I thought both the female & male lead were excellent and they really got the audience to empathise with them. Another personal dislike here though... I hate small children in films. Well no, let me rephrase... I hate small children. And in this case, the little boy is so trying to be Haley Joel Osmond its just annoying.
Otherwise this film is brilliant. It made me jump a hell of a lot, and hide behind my hands quite a few times. Go and see it and be scared yourself!!
Two weeks Notice
I had to go and see this film. had to. Hugh Grant is one of, if not, my favourite actors, probably because he is just so so attractive that grrh I need to have 2 hours of perving sessions every so often.
Two weeks notice is your typical romantic comedy, but unlike most which have very few jokes, this one does have you laughing out loud quite a few times. I can't believe that Grant is 43, and Bullock 39, as they both look so young! There is a lot of chemistry between these two meaning they work really well together and its a delight to watch. Grant portrays the spoilt rich boy perfectly and although he plays the same character again and again, I just can't get enough.
Romantic films are a toughie. I love watching them but I invariably feel depressed at the end!!! Its a shocker! But seriously go and see this if you just want to see something light hearted.. tis a "nice" film.
