Grrh Argh

I meant to post about this yesterday but had too many stresses to sort it out.

The Wb have cancelled Angel.

I mean ARGH. Not only did we lose Buffy last season, but we got Spike on Angel and the world was happy with continued Spikeness.

Last week we had the most beautiful episode - number 100 - You're Welcome which I won't go into because it hasn't yet aired in the UK and I will no doubt piss a lot of people off. But I finally got to see what I've wanted for a couple of seasons now in the Angelverse.

The WB however slashed my happiness with this comment:

For the last seven years Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have been cornerstones of our network. The sum total of the work done on those shows has produced some of the proudest moments in our history. Like some of the great series that are leaving the air this year, including Frasier and Friends, the cast, crew, writers and producers of Angel deserve to be able to wrap up the series in a way befitting a classic television series and that is why we went to Joss to let him know that this would be the last year of the series on The WB. We have discussed continuing the Angel legacy with special movie events next year, which is still on the table. In a perfect world, all of these details would be completed before this information went to the press so that we could be definitive about the show's ongoing future. But in any case, we did not want to contemplate this being the last year of Angel without giving the show the option of crafting their own destiny for this character and for this series. David Boreanaz continues to be one of the finest, classiest and friendliest actors we have had the pleasure to work with and we hope that the relationship furthers from here. The same can be said for all the actors and producers on the show.

So there we are, for those of us competely upto date we have but 9 episodes left.

Angel has consistently been better than Buffy in the last few seasons. Buffy should have finished with The Gift - a majestic episode finishing a fantastic season. However if it had not continued then we wouldn't have had Season 6 - my favourite, and a lot of people's least favourite season. Buffy and Spike were just fantastic. However Season 7 was pretty dire, as in fact was Season 4 of Angel. However it had just got going again and particuarly with the shanshu arc looked set to be onto a winner.

Will the Buffyverse be closed forever? Will Spike's cheekbones never grace our screens again? Or will a new spin off be conjured up? The much touted Faith & Spike? Will Tru Calling be cancelled and this be a possibililty? I dunno if I would have the interest? I But I know one thing....

For the fun and pleasure you've brought us over the last 7 years, Joss Whedon - Thank you.
