Just got in from Djing

Just got in from Djing the Atomic Free Spirits social in Zippys. Was a very cool night, apart from the Zippys desk being extra volume sensitive & altogether a bit dodgy.
It was the first night I worked by myself (we're normally in pairs... Dom & me 2moro at Score!), so I was a tad nervous at first. BUT... being able to play what I like, when I like it without having another person ruining my thread of songs. And there were no music constraints. I played a fair share of bootlegs inc. Without Mother, getting its Union debut there!! Its SO funny watching peoples faces as totally different lyrics come on from what they are expecting. And of course my very favourite triple play of Busted - What I go to school for, Avril - Sk8ta Boi, & Bowling for Soup - Girl all the bad guys want.

Was a truly excellent night even tho I was all alone (poor me) in Zippys for a whopping 5 hours. And I got a big round of applause when I finished. Yay me :-)

Everyone’s getting spanked but

Everyone's getting spanked but me

Well not actually me, but that was an absolutely hilarious line in a Buffy ep I watched last night. Currently working my way through season 4, and you know, I never thought I would say this but its actually not that bad on rewatch... and Riley isn't as dreadful as I remembered. I think it may have something to do with the fact that it was during Season 4, the Beeb went crazy with the schedule and threw Buffy all over the place. They did that with the X-files too, and hence it lost my interest as I could never find when it was on. I am quite tempted to buy x-files dvds so I can watch all the way through but afaik theres a whole 9 seasons worth! (and I'm still mentally scarred by the athlete's foot taking over the world episode)

And yet another link... Parallel view.

Oh and another… New York,

Oh and another... New York, Paris, London, Munich linked to me a while ago.. so cheers and rightbackatcha!!!

Just giving the Shakira album a go. Upto track 6, and nothing has stood out apart from the brilliant Underneath your clothes . Ready for the good times is quite a good upbeat track tho.

Well I’ve managed to skank

Well I've managed to skank my dad's email connection so here I am!! Rejoice ye masses. Ahem.

I saw Chicago on Thursday night... finally. I've been waiting for this film since I saw the trailer way back in November, and it pissed me off in no uncertain terms when 30th december came and it opened ... only in london. Fantastic. So yeah everyone has been saying how Renee Zellweger really shines, but to be honest I really cannot stand the woman. I think its just something about her face... her lips her cheeks perhaps?? I dunno she just freaks me out a bit. I watched Bridget Jones the other day and admit I did like it. But watching that and then this, I was left wondering wtf her boobs had gone. She is thin as a rake.. just look at her knees. The thiness could make u feel ill And I didn't think she was that amazing. CZJ on the other hand is just the most gorgeous woman ever. Everything about her shines...

Overall I did enjoy the film. Richard Gere was v. cool and I was bizarrely attracted to him all the way through it. I would really like to see this on the stage now and will probably see the film again... I think its one of those that you can appreciate more the second time round.

I also finally saw the Justin Timberlake - Cry me a river video. True to reports he does seem like a psychotic killer in it and yes that most definatly is meant to be Britters. But just one thing, whats the crazy jumping dancing all about dude!???

Hey guys Just a quick

Hey guys

Just a quick update to say I'm away for the weekend so I probably won't be blogging till monday.

However... I need your help. I'm probably running for a sabbatical post in my Students' Union (yes I've changed my mind again) and need a campaign/slogan type thing.

I was thinking of doing a spoof of a film poster perhaps... but if anyone has any astounding ideas then please leave me a comment!

New stuff I’ve heard

New stuff

I've heard quite a lot of people raving about the new Dannii Minogue track, and I eventually found a copy of it via MP3 finder, only to find that its a exact cover of J.C.A "I begin to wonder". I loved this track when I heard the original and seeing the Dannii one is just a replica but with her voice I love it too. Definately find a copy of it people! Its got a slight 80s feel with a synth beat fitting into the pop-dance catagory... but good! Out on Feb 24th.

Popjustice report that S Club are meant to be releasing my favourite track from their album, Love ain't gonna wait for you sometime before their movie comes out. No release date yet.. but its a true disco stomper and it rocks.

OOh also looking through the new release schedule - The Cardigans have got a new single out on 10 March & an album on 24th! Can't wait :-)

In other news Matthew Kelly has been arrested for alleged sexual assult on minors...the names that are popping out are getting more shocking daily!

Wednesday 15 January 2003

Hey peeps. I’m very very

Hey peeps.

I'm very very tired from the whole staying up all night to write an essay extravaganza, and have now been roped into djing Score tonight. Whoo.

Last week people came in really early meaning we had to play good stuff sooner, and nearly ran out of music. So if any of you brilliant people would like to leave me songs that fit into 88 - 97 pop/dance catagory, that would be ace. I can see if i'm missing any then!!

The other thing going on at the moment, is that I'm trying to design a new schedule for RaW, my student radio station, where i'm the programme controller. Lots of pieces of paper flying about everywhere at the mo. Nightmare!

This is soooooooooooooooooo boring 1600

This is soooooooooooooooooo boring 1600 2 go.

Realised I hadn't got a link to Noise Monkey. So if you're a random... go read it for tis good! :-~)

*gasp* shock horror. Kix 96

*gasp* shock horror. Kix 96 are playing a funky remix of If You're not the one. I couldn't even consider such a thing existed! Its not that good though!!

I'm stuck trying to write an essay for 2moro. Mr Shipp & Ann marie, Carter & Claudia, Carys etc etc are all out at the pub & then going to Dave's. Not impressed. I'm writing about the information system of a recruitment firm. Excellente.

So the midweeks eh. As expected gimpboy is in at no1. Not astounding sales though given he is a reality tv star. Girls Aloud still selling quite well. Jamieson track is just a bit funny. First its garage which means I'm not too keen, but hmm I dunno its just a bit bizarre & i don't know how to explain it. Its like garage happy hardcore. Yup see it made no sense :-)

HUUUGE yay for feeder. Hope that position sticks till week end. And Busted!!! My favourite mockrock pop boys are in at no5! Layo & Bushwacka are in at no 7 which is excellent. Whatever you do you must find a copy of this. Its Love Story vs Kings of convienience's finally and it sounds like they were meant to be together.

Ooooh only 1900 words to go.

Child porn mania Hmmm…

Child porn mania

Hmmm... i'm not sure that's quite the right thing to put on my blog. Hello anyone checking to see if im a paedophile. I'm not.

But... as mentioned below Jonathan King posts to TS and Popjustice have highlighted a particular post of his from this weekend.

Sad news about Maurice Gibb, I knew him well in the sixties. Even sadder news about Pete Townshend...but I warned you all when it happened to me. The unholy alliance between police and media, combined with Britain's extraordinary sex laws has meant its open season on celebrities. Whether it's false allegations provoked by publicity as it was for me, and will be for Pete, John Leslie and all the others, or, true past skeletons coming out of star's closets, it's going to get worse. Watch out for those tabloid Pete stories acquired by agents like Maxi boy. I see there are now senior politicians in the frame. Could that be ugly rumours? (all you need for conviction, evidence is not necessary). What I want to know is - do they do kiddie porn in braille?

a) the first sentence just shows how twisted he is.
b) this so deliberatly points to someone... surely this is libellous. Go figure.

More links! Just been

More links!

Just been reading popjustice & they reminded me that I totally haven't linked to one of my favourite sites.

Tipsheet is now only a shadow of its former self. It used to be run by madman Jonathan King before he was whisked off to jail and continued a little while longer. They produced a weekly magazine which readers could contribute to, highlighting all upandcoming music. I really miss it & was more than a little pissed when it shut the magazine side... as I had work experience organised with them the following week!!! God dang! ... However, the messageboard still exists and occasionally contains some good stuff. Jonathan King also seems to post stuff from jail... and its often complete amusing drivel. Well worth a look

Record of the Day is a new site set up by the people who used to do the TS magazine. You can subscribe to a limited version of the magazine but it is nowhere near as good as the stuff you used to get on TS limited. There is a messageboard tho again, which is often quite good.

Gutted For months now,

Gutted
For months now, Buffy fans have been waiting for the day when it is confirmed that SMG will not sign a new contract that continues her through to Season 8 of BtVS. We have been pondering the replacements for her character and the possible spinoffs. Yet today brings the doleful news that UPN (the network that show Buff) controller has said that Buffy ratings are floundering and it is unlikely the show will return in the same format.

/me weeps a thousand tears.

I put the Brit in Celebrity

Well once, indeed you may have, Mr Robbie Williams.  However this time round you ain't done too well I'm afraid.  The Brit nominations were announced tonight... who I would like to win is in italic and who I think will win in bold.

British male solo artist - Badly Drawn Boy; Craig David; David Gray; The Streets; Robbie Williams:  (Not listened to BDB album fully... so may change when I do.  God I'm so commerical)

British female solo artist - Sophie Ellis Bextor; Ms Dynamite; Beverley Knight; Alison Moyet; Beth Orton  (Not particulary fascinated by any of them)

British album - Coldplay, Rush of Blood to the Head; Ms Dynamite, A Little Deeper; The Coral, The Coral; The Streets, Original Pirate Material; Sugababes, Angels with Dirty Faces.

British group - Blue; Coldplay; Doves; Sugababes; Oasis.  (yup, commerical ho.. but duncan is so fine!)
British single - Atomic Kitten, The Tide is High (Get The Feeling); Gareth Gates, Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake); Gareth Gates, Unchained Melody; Liberty X, Just A Little; Will Young, Anything Is Possible/Evergreen (2 for Garth... whats the world coming to!!)

British urban act - Beverley Knight; Big Brovaz; Craig David; Daniel Bedingfield; Mis-Teeq; Ms Dynamite; Romeo; Roots Manuva; So Solid Crew; The Streets.

British dance act - Chemical Brothers; Groove Armada; Jamiroquai; Kosheen; Sugababes

British breakthrough artist - Liberty X; Ms Dynamite; The Coral; The Streets; Will Young.  (This one is confusing me.  How do these 5 artists fit together in a catagory???  I don't know what I'm going off so I can't really pick. Random catagory more like)

Pop act - Blue; Enrique Iglesias; Gareth Gates; Pink; Will Young.

International male solo artist - Beck; Eminem; Moby; Nelly; Bruce Springsteen

International female solo artist - Missy Elliot; Norah Jones; Alicia Keys; Avril Lavigne; Pink

International album - Eminem, The Eminem Show; Norah Jones, Come Away with Me; Alicia Keys, Songs in A Minor; Pink, Missundaztood; Red Hot Chili Peppers, By The Way

International group - Foo Fighters; Nickelback; Red Hot Chili Peppers; Royksopp; White Stripes (really not sure who will win so gonna leave it)

International breakthrough artist - Norah Jones; Avril Lavigne; Nickelback; Shakira; White Stripes

Ooh in other news, Sinead

Ooh in other news, Sinead Quinn (runner up in fame academy) has her debut release " I can't break down" pencilled in for Feb 10th. I really hope she does well.. she has a lovely voice & is a lot more "credible" than David "gareth gates" sneddon who is possibly this week's no 1. Hmmm seems like a good time to check this weeks new releases then:

David Sneddon - Stop living the lie - Winner of BBC1's fame academy. Yeah its a good tune but he has as much charisma as a plank of wood. He really is just a grinning gimp. Better suited to be a songwriter. Don't think will make it in the long run, but will he manage to knock G.A off the top spot. Eagerly await the midweeks.
Feeder - Just the way i'm feeling - Heard this copious times on TMF over Xmas and adore it. My favourite feeder track since "Seven days in the Sun" back in April 14. A playlisted on RaW and will hopefully be a big top ten entry on Sunday.
Punjabi Mc - Mundian To Bach Ke - THAT knightrider tune. Everyone seems to love it but it really does nothing at all for me. Top 20... maybe top 10. I'm not really sure of its popularity.
Layo & Bushwacka - Love Story Finally Wow. Havent heard this... is it Kings of tomorrow - finally or Ce ce peniston??? Whichever it is I love them both & will have to go get this now to find out how fantastic it is!!
Lucy Carr - Missing you As mentioned in the random top 10 below.
Zoe Birkett - Treat me like a lady - Pop idol 4th place star, Zoe finally brings us a debut single. Its a fiesty pop dancefloor number which is a grower. Dunno how well its going to do, but I wish her well. I like it now.
Busted - Year 3000 - hehe I absolutely adore Busted.. and am so getting there album. They have been slated for pretending to be rock when they blatently aren't but I really don't care. I love their songs & think they rock! Top 10

So this list of new releases makes it look like chart land may get back to normal & we will see some movement! Quite a poppy week, but I'm hoping Busted & Feeder do well. Midweeks will be appearing on Wed prob & then tune into a chart on Sunday to find out what's no 1. Incidentally if you can hear an emap station, then definatly tune into Mark Goodier's Smash Hits Chart... it is fab. More on the new charts coming soon

Crabwalk.com are doing a cd

Crabwalk.com are doing a cd exchange fest. If you haven't done one before basically you compile a compilation cd send it off, and you get someone else's back. All the details are on the site so go have a look. You need to register by midnight (US time) tonight to be a part of this month's swap. I did one of these last summer & its good fun.. you get to hear random music you otherwise wouldn't.

All my life I’ve

All my life I've never loved anything but you

mmmm, omg, I watched Buffy 4x5 Wild at heart last night and when Oz said that to Willow, just before he leaves, it left me bawling!! Shocking but such a fantastic line. I didnt remember particularly liking Oz, but now I so do. 4x4 (beer bad) was also watched, and if you're after a comedy buffy, I can definatly recommend it. Very cool.

My fav blog has linked back to me so hello to anyone from O Manchester, so much to answer for, and everyone I know go read him... its ace, and he has a fantastic list of blogs which I am gradually working my way through & will be adding to my links if I like them.

I' m at uni at 3, and its 1.42 so I think i'm going to do another random ten... drumroll please.

1. Nenah Cherry - Woman - A no 9 from back in 1996, I absolutely love this song, and don't hear it enough at all. The instrumental backing is just gorgeous, and cherry's voice & lyrics are just brilliant. Haven't heard anything from her in a long time, her last single in the top 40 was in December 96. I think she may have done something with Eagle Eye a couple of years back tho. I think I may have to hunt out some more of here music as I think that this is the only track that I know.
2. Jackson 5 - Can you feel it - Hehe, a cheeky disco tune sneaking in here. I don't know what it is about this song but it makes me laugh. Used to love it, but heard it far far too much now, thanks to the Lionel Vinyl days.
3. Pink - Split Personality - Hmm never heard this track before. Much more rnb than her latest stuff, and anyone who knows me knows I'm not overly keen on rnb. I think I'm going to add it to my "tunes to listen to" playlist though cos it sounds like a grower. Not a bad track at all.
4. Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar (Marco V remix) - One of the absolute dance classics with a new 2002 remix. This is much harder than the original. Begins with a hard bassline and then breaks down into the familar trace melody and repeats this for about 9 minutes! Good remix but I prefer the original!
5. Lucy Carr - Missing you - From the latest clubland album. I used to like female fluffy vocal trance but its gone far too much into overdrive atm and is just annoying. This isnt a bad track though... and with a good remix could do well and be quite a choon. N.b. I said good remix. This means flip n fill stay far away.
6. DJ Vortex & Arpa's dream - Incoming (arome mix) - Another hard dance track. This was recommended to me by Gaz ages & ages ago. Bit monotonous, have a dude shouting "incoming" in the background... .but then it breaks down into this fantastic sample of Fugees - Ready or not . Worth at least a one of listen to hear the fugees bit!
7. Conway - Smells like missy elliott - One of the first bootlegs I heard. Nirvana vs Get ur freak on. You all know it... if not GET IT NOW! Quite funny to play it in a club and confuse the hell out of everyone when missy randomly starts :-)
8. Paul Hardcastle - Running back Taken from an album produced by Jazz FM, this really is just light, not very interesting jazz. Can't say it does anything for me & its the first time I've heard it. Bit dull really.
9. Craig David - Rendezvous As I've said before I'm not a particular fan of this guy, but this & Hidden Agenda are my favourites. The soft background melody is gorgeous. His lowest charter tho at no 8. Accused by some of being drab and boring i find it a very relaxed, romantic tune and there are some ace upbeat remixes. Love it!
10. Spooky - Belong (Echospace remix) - Taken from Cream's Future Chill album, this chillout track has nothing particularly endearing or memorable about it. A female vocal over some electronica, it does nothing for me.

So there we go. Not a brilliant ten this time round.
Burn it: DJ Vortex - Incoming (if you like dance & just to hear the fugees bit.) / Craig David - Rendezvous
Bin it: Paul Hardcastle - Running back
- its just cack!

Thanks to Cheryl for introducing

Thanks to Cheryl for introducing me to Art of the Mix via her blog which I read for the first time in ages last night & it gave me something to do mid-assignment. So yeah I created a mix which you can see here. Doing this compilation brought me to hear the A Camp album for the first time. I had had it on my computer for a while but just never listened. Its basically the solo effort of Nina Persson from the Cardigans, with Mark Linkous from Sparklehorse controlling the production... very cool a definate recommendation. Particularly track 1 - Frequent Flyer

Look left… links! Just

Look left... links!

Just to say check out the links down the left hand side. Mainly random blogs/sites I have come across. Popjustice and Oh Manchester, so much to answer for particularly! Oh Manchester is some guy in the USA who seems particularly interested in UK music & less interestingly for me baseball :-) But his music chat is v. v. good to read. Definatly check it out on a Sunday when he listens to the top 40 and comments on it track by track!

50 years of the

50 years of the greatest Hit Singles

I just *had* to comment on this as I am temporarily disturbed.
I'm sat having a lazy Saturday listening to music & reading blogs before preparing to shop & then do some uni work. I've borrowed a few cds to listen to and put on the above album. Its all fine.. we've got quality songs, Annie Lennox - Nothing compares to you, Oasis - Don't look back in anger, The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset, David Bowie - Heroes etc etc. Then, out of nowhere, awkwardly positioned between Nothing compares to you and Love is all around we get Atomic Kitten - Whole again. I mean WHAT???
The other modern ones Britney - Baby one more time, Spice Girls - Wannabe, Kylie - Can't get you out of my head you can see having a place there as they are monumentilish songs in the charts but there is one final oddity Steps - Tragedy ? Random

*Yawn* end of first week

*Yawn*  end of first week back and I'm getting a tad weary.  I have no idea what possessed the Business School to organise a lecture on a Friday for 4pm - 6pm in Gibbet Hill, but its bloody tiring.

This week has been spent mainly going to all my lectures (well all -2... which is good 4 me!) and planning election campaigns.  Now I'm not running myself but as Comms chair it means that we have to co-ordinate the whole election publicity extravaganza.  Union exec last night was very long too which doesnt aid the feeling awake process!

Score was v. cool on Wed.  I'm really enjoying this djing lark now, and surprisingly I'm not too bad at it :-).

Tonight sees the launch of Reckless.. the new union dance night, so provided Carys gets her arse into gear i'll be heading along there in a bit.

See you all later, oh apart from that one person who you may not think I know ur reading this but I do... get over it please.  Remember me talking about tiresome things earlier!!

Trix xx ps. if anyone can help me out figureing out how to put a commenting thing in here i'll be eternally greatful!

Tuesday 7 January 2003

Ok… there has been a

Ok... there has been a slight hiatus in blog updatage due to a few reasons:

1) Busted Computer : Woke up and computer had turned itself off. Won't turn back on. Think it is just the power supply though so should be sorting it soon. I'm just nicking Carys machine at the mo.

2) Going back to Uni : Yeah i'm back in the bubble. Glad to be back this time acutally. LP is still exactly the same as it was.. they have done nothing to it. Not even sorted the lifts. GODDAMN.
Also I showed up at a new course's 1st lecture on Monday & got told it had been cancelled, leaving me 12 cats short. Great. So i've spent all today trying to sort it out & have managed to wangle not picking a 12 cat dcs option but managing to get an unusual option from the Stats department. Bonus.

Oh and just so you get quite how crap LP is. They are turning the water off at 9am tomorrow for 8 hours. I mean really... wtf!!!

I have also made a decision that I'm not running for a sabbatical position. As much as I would love to do the job, I think that I really need to concentrate on my degree and I doubt that taking a year out in the middle is going to help it.

Wednesday 1 January 2003

Well first of all I’d

Well first of all I'd like to say that I HATE PAT .  He's made his blog funky and I want a funky blog.  Rot in hell you bastard

Oh yeah. And then we get to Russ whose stolen my *cough* stolen idea.  You're all fcukwits!  And I call you people my friends!!!

Anyway....

1. The Bluetones - Marblehead Johnson :  I don't really know much about the bluetones at all.  Well s/much/anything - other than they have played at Warwick quite a bit.  Thats it.  Finito. End of all knowledge.  I like that song though. Vaguly remember it from younger years.  Ah yes it reached no 7 in 1996.. yeah that was my Spice Girl era :)

2. Lazard feat Beverly Craven - 4 o clock in the morning:  Qualitteeeeeeeee dance track.  Been about in the NW for about a year or so.  Probably more by now but doesnt seem to have spread down to the nether regions of the UK.  It bases itself on, if I remember correctly, a happy hardcore tune by Orca (i think) - 4am.   Not as cheesy as All Around the World stuff.  Vocals are very light & floaty and its altogether a fab tune to have a good old knees up to ( in the clubbers sense of a knees up :P )  Oh bugger me, I've just check AATW's site and ooh look they have signed up lazard.  If flipping fill get their hands on it... I swear to god I'll kill em.

3. The Divine Comedy - Everybody knows (except you):  Awh.  One of my absolute favourite tracks.  It is an joy everytime I hear this.  The simplicity of the track combined with the brilliance of the lyrics just makes it an absolute chooon.  I cannot believe it only reached no 14!  These pesky single buyers!

4. White Town - Your woman: Corker of a one hit wonder from back in 1997.  The quirkiness of the track propelled it to no1 and with a backtrack like it, how could it do anything but.  I never quite got it though!  I could never be your woman .  Well talk about stating the obvious.

5. Hear'say - Lovin is easy  The first (and last) Hear'say single feat the new line up.  Well it was poppy, catchy and charted well (no 6).  But they split up in October this year.  I didn't watch the original Popstars so can't say I was particular arsed really.  Now the new bunch of popstars has rolled round and given us Girls Aloud & One True Voice.  Great names, peeps.  Girls Aloud look like they are going to have success ... onto their 3rd week at no1 now, and unless David "the grin" Sneddon manages to throw them off with "Livin the lie", I reckon they will be there until T.A.T.U release "All the things she says" unless I have completely missed something HUGE when I looked through the up and coming new releases!

6. Mauro Picotto - Lizard (gonna get you)- Absolute stomper of a dance track from Picotto, who I partied away at Gatecrasher to back in August.  Play it at any night and the crowd goes wild.  This was the first offering the UK had of Picotto and he has since followed it up with tracks such as Pulsar, and the brilliant Komodo (Save a soul)

7. Boyzone - A Different Beat:  Back in the days of Boyzone, I thought that I really hated them.  Then Westlife came along, and I discovered what hate really was :)

So yeah. Its meant to be 10, but i'm bored so there you go 7 tough luck :P
